Here are the details:
What: SBU's NYC WakeUp Tour + Uncubed
When: Thursday, April 17, & Friday, April 18
* Both days begin at 10 AM.
Who: All Stony Brook CS students (undergrad & grad) are invited to apply through this site!
* Applications will be reviewed prior to trip participation approval.
Cost: A 100%-refundable deposit of $17.50 (the cost of 1 peak LIRR ticket).
* This deposit will be returned to you in full upon completion of—and attendance on—both days (April 17 & 18).
* We will cover up to 2 return trips for you from NYC to Stony Brook via LIRR (1 peak LIRR ticket per day); you will only need to cover your transportation into the city. We can offer this coverage for up to 40 students.
* Please bring money for food & any incidentals.
Companies: You will meet 80+ at Uncubed (Day 1) & tour 4-5 on Day 2. Tours have visited Spotify, Stack Overflow, BuzzFeed, Shapeways, Etsy, Venmo, Behance, Warby Parker, Updater, Barkbox, Gilt Groupe, and many, many more. You will be sent a final schedule in advance of this trip.
Why: This tour will provide you with an inside look at the startup space and companies within it. You'll gain first-hand exposure to their cultures, products & services, and stories by sitting down with founders (wherever possible) and team members like devs, data scientists, systems architects, and more. Plus you'll get their answers about what it takes to break into and succeed in the highly competitive and fast-growing startup space.
